FIDA- Kenya in partnership with Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Educational Trust (WLSA- Malawi) have since 2009 been jointly coordinating Legal Network on Women’s Property and Inheritance in Eastern and Southern Africa also known as Women’s Inheritance Now (WIN).
The main objective of the network is to advance women’s property and inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in Eastern and South Africa through sharing of information, experiences and strategies by legal practitioners and human rights activists.
The 3rd Annual Strategy Conference was organized during the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the year’s theme “The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges” is relatable to the objectives of the WIN Network.
The one day conference provided members with opportunities to; share respective country status on women property rights and HIV/AIDS; assess the advancement of women with regards to property and inheritance within the context of HIV/AIDS; provide international profile for the Network through interacting with other actors’ worldwide working in the area of advancement of women’s property rights within the context of HIV/AIDS
In addition members came up with new strategies for the Network and planned for 2012. The meeting was organized by FIDA-Kenya and hosted by the Open Society Institute- New York.
